This full day Enjoy the natural mountains colors of the rarely visited vinincunka trek or Rainbow Mountain Trek, hiking through some isolated communities, in which you may interact with the local people who are still keeping the culture alive!. You will see snowcapped peaks, herds of llamas, glaciers and turquoise lakes, all set within an incredibly colourful mountain range. The Rainbow Mountain trek offers a selection of wildlife including soaring condors, vicunas, bobcats and pumas.  The colourful sandstone mountains in the Vinicunka area is probably the coolest thing you will see in Peru.

Most trips that give such unparalleled access to the Rainbow Mountains require a multi-day trek, but we have changed that with this itinerary; designing a spectacular, but challenging hike that can be taken as a day trip from Cusco. This part of the country is also unique around Cusco because you’ll observe Andean life still being practiced in the traditional way and have the chance to meet and talk directly with the local Quechua people.

In this part of the hike there are some incredible views of Cusco and the surrounding mountains. After hiking for 30 more minutes we will get to Lake Qoricocha, an amazing location which will be where we’ll have our much-needed lunch. When we continue after lunch, 35 minutes into the trek we will conquer our second mountain pass, and the highest point of the entire trek (4,200 m/13,779 ft). Fortunately, the rest of the trek today will be downhill. For the next 4 hours we will cross panoramic valleys, an imposing canyon and walk a trail that is part of the extensive Inca trail network that spanned the entire empire. We will camp right on one of the terraces at the Huchuy Qosqo site itself.
